Go to God for answers - Tuesday Theology: From Stressed to Blessed

We think that many choices make us free. But often they just leave us paralysed.

Walk into a supermarket and find toothpaste. There are sixty kinds on the shelf. Do I really have to choose?

There's cold cough syrup, warm cough syrup, and fourteen variants in between.

The more options we have, the harder it gets to make up our minds.

And indecision is an overlooked source of stress. You can't move forward and you can't move back, and it wears on you.

The fourth Tuesday in From Stressed to Blessed. Today, about what David did when he stood at a crossroads.

"He gives me new strength, and leads me on the right path, for he is a good and faithful God." (Psalm 23:3)

David had one place he went when he had a choice to make.

Not his neighbor's opinion. Not a voice on the screen shouting loudest. But God, who always tells the truth, even when the truth is inconvenient.

James promises it plainly:

"If you lack wisdom, ask God for it. God gladly gives to everyone without finding fault." (James 1:5)

Notice the ending. Without finding fault.

God doesn't sigh when you come and ask again. He doesn't roll his eyes. He gives gladly.

The process is simple. You pray: God, I need wisdom here. You read in the Bible. And then you wait.

You grow still, listen, pay attention within. At the right time God places the thought in you, and you feel it inside: this is the way.

And those are exactly the three words that drive us crazy. At the right time.

Because we want the answer now. But God is neither too early nor too late.

If you have to decide something that only takes effect next year, he rarely gives you the answer today. Not because he's holding it back to tease you, but because he wants you to trust him in the meantime.

The Bible says each day has enough trouble of its own. Take one day at a time.

God gives you the right guidance, but he does it when you need it, not when you demand it.

It's worth making into a confession of faith you can rest in: God leads me at the right time. Not the wrong one.

His timing is perfect. He is never late.

This week, try laying one of your choices entirely into his hands. Not halfway, where you still turn it over every night. Entirely.

And see what happens to the unrest.
